you can also add a set, decrease rest, you can also start doing them weighted. even if it cuts the reps in half, doing them weighted adds more resistance, so when you go back to body weight it will be easier

i know people do dead hand and active hangs to help with pull ups, would holding himself up at different levels of a dip help? like, hold at half position for 45 seconds?
